Got a phone call this morning from Kent Sutton, Dad's neighbor and bishopric member who was reporting that he has the irrigation water for the pasture lined up for this Friday. His kids miss sitting by Dad at church, and have each written cards and notes to him. Dad has good friends and neighbors checking on him and keeping an eye out for him, and we really appreciate their concern.
Meanwhile, everyone is doing a great job of checking on the farm and the calves - Nathan has kept the lawn mowed, Teresa cleaned the kitchen, did all his laundry, bought new laundry baskets, cleaned out his cupboards and found matching dishes for when he gets home, Nate and Tiff cleaned his room and bathroom - that tub has never been so clean!! And everyone else has pitched in to help in some way or another. Those of us not in town really appreciate everything that everyone is doing to check on Dad, to visit him and especially Laura for making sure that someone was with him on a daily basis for those first couple of weeks.
Melinda reports that the best thing we can do for Dad is to continue the brief visits, giving him encouragement, cheering him along, and having a positive attitude. Things will slowly improve as they wean him from the morphine and other medications, but it will take time.
On a lighter note, Janine thought that Dad would want a picture to show his friends, so we took a snapshot of his cool scar that looks like a 14" zipper down the middle of his chest. The nurses tell us that it is gorgeous, healing so well. But you ought to let me know if you would like to see the picture on this blog or not... Ü
